I’m a British citizen, although I have lived and worked in the Netherlands since 1983. I came here on a three year assignment, but fell in love with the country, and one Dutchman in particular, and so have stayed here ever since. On the 13th December 2006 I also became a Dutch citizen.

In March, 2006, we bought a farmhouse – De Witte Wand – in the Dutch countryside and retired to a quiet life together. De Witte Wand (the White Wall) is pictured above.

Geoff, I came across your blog by chance whilst explaining to my eldest daughter about Belmont House and the photo of the Dumbbell wedding, a picture I was familiar with. I remember you and Michael ( and your mum and dad, who was I recall an MHK) from your days in the Ivanhoe, I lived next door in the Wellington with my parents. I have not moved too far, having lived in Baldrine for 42 years and I went to sea for a living, and these days I am the senior pilot at Douglas Harbour and run my own company, Laxey Towing Company, owning the tugs barges pilot launch and cranes around Douglas Harbour.

    Best regards
